Lynne Zimmerman

Founder and President of Common Sense Services

Physical Therapist

Lynne Zimmerman founded Common Sense Services in 1990 and has many years of experience in Physical Therapy and Adult Day Services.

Lynne’s engagement with the concept of adult day services began in Guilford Surrey, England.   Frail and disabled adults, transported from their homes via specialized vans called “Lorries” attended an adult day program nestled in the out-patient physio-therapy care unit in the local hospital which offered a structured day program of therapeutic activities, morning coffee, brunch and “high tea” in the afternoon.  The practicality, personalization and professional care delivered in that unique venue formed the foundation of her career in community based services.

Lynne completed studies for a BS in Physical Therapy and a Masters in Secondary Education.  She practiced Physical Therapy in Boston Massachusetts, Hartford Connecticut, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before moving to the Twin Cities where she Directed Physical Therapy Services at multiple long term care facilities and the Wilder Senior Clinic.

Her involvement with Adult Day Services in the United States began with Wilder Community Services Adult Day Programs; she served as Adult Day Director and contributed to the expansion of Wilder Adult Day and the development of the Wilder Assisted Living Programs in St. Paul.  In 1990 she established Common Sense Services as a 501c3 non-profit community services program offering licensed Adult Day Services, Home Services, Short Term Overnight Respite and Therapeutic  Support.

Lynne has served as President of the Minnesota Adult Day Services Association, Publications Chair of the National Adult Day Services Association and accepted an award from Dakota County on behalf of Common Sense Services for “Outstanding Service.
